Connecting flights

Hi everyone,

So I'm thinking about booking my first solo trip for next year, I'm currently planning San Francisco then I'll make my way to Los Angeles.

I'll then fly from Los Angeles to New Orleans, the flight home from New Orleans will be part of my original ticket, but there are stopovers in New York on my way home, one flight have 10.5 hours.

Are my bags checked directly through to London? So when I arrive in New York I'm a domestic passenger, so I can leave, do I already have my boarding pass for my later flight?

Sorry never flown indirect before so I'm unsure on the process, if I can leave the airport to go to Manhattan for the day? No luggage & boarding pass?

Thanks

I’m assuming here that your return flight is New Orleans - New York - London on one ticket.

If it’s one ticket for both flights, the domestic flight from New Orleans - NYC arrives to the same airport as NYC-LON departs, and the NYC-LON departs on the same day as MSY-NYC arrives, then yes, your bags will be checked through from MSY-LON. You should get boarding passes for both flights when you check in for the MSY-NYC flight.

It’s no problem to leave the airport in NYC and go into Manhattan, just ensure you arrive back in time to get through security at whichever of JFK and EWR you will be using.
