Iceland accomodation recommendations

Hi,

I'm looking at booking a trip to Iceland, with dh & the kids (15 &13)

Does anyone have any recommendations on areas to stay with kids or a hotel? I have found some lovely apartments on air b&b, but I have no clue where the best areas are! If someone could give me some tips for research purposes I would be grateful!

Thanks!

We stayed at the Hotel Fron on the main shopping street in the middle of Reykjavik. Walked to all the museums etc. We were given a suite as there was three of us. Breakfast was included, and there was a couple of grocery shops down the street. It was quite expensive to eat out, but all the food was excellent.

I’ve been eyeing up a trip for December and have looked at the Alda hotel which appears to be on one of the main streets. TripAdvisor gives it some great reviews.

As with our other backup options we are awaiting a potential travel corridor being set up with Iceland as at present they are not on the exemption list for quarantine and as a country they don’t appear to be accepting anyone without covid testing on arrival or a negative test result.

We stayed in the Radisson Blu Saga when we visited in 2018, I booked flights and hotel through BA holidays and a car separately. We had breakfast included - I may have paid extra but it wouldn’t have been too much more, can’t remember. The hotel was fantastic. The staff lovely. We had amazing views from our room and it was a lovely base for our days out.

This is great to know as we have booked this hotel through BA too for next Feb, I can’t wait! It was a steal at £250pp for flights and 3 nights accommodation

That’s a great deal and you will have a fantastic time. I honestly couldn’t fault the hotel, we had a really comfortable stay. The views of Iceland are magical, on some of our drives we likened the scenery to how I could imagine being on the moon looks!

That's such a good price! Bet it's not over half term though is it? I want to go 18th-21st and that hotel isn't on BA.com!

Thanks everyone! I need to look into this properly, and look at accommodation! I really want to get something booked, especially as BA are offering no fee changes for things booked before 31st Aug and travel before April 21. Just not sure on locations and does anyone hire a car? As there are 4 of us, teens who will be 13 & nearly 15, I keep wondering if I should look at an air b&b or similar for a bit more space & comfort?

That’s strange. We go Friday 19th to Monday 22nd. Let me just check I’ve got the hotel right!

Yes it is the right one, very odd that it’s not on the BA website now unless they’ve sold out on those dates?

If I was going with the kids I would probably look at an AirBnB purely for the space. There are some lovely apartments on there that looked really central. As it’s just my mum, sister and I we don’t mind sharing for 3 nights but I did look at AirBnB for options
