I'm sure the disney hotels are great but they are also expensive. There are many non disney hotels that are situated just across the road from the entrance. Worth looking into if your on a budget.

I loved Universal in Hollywood - its so exciting to be able to do a backstage tour where you actually visit film sets from present and old movies and tv shows - for example Ghost Whisperer, Back to the future, Jaws, Jurassic Park and Alias were all filmed there.
I would go back there in a heartbeat. Did like Disney in Anaheim - but much preferred Orlando, and dont know why but dont like the Anaheim castle anywhere near as much as the one in Magic Kingdom. If I was back in LA, I would still make a visit here, but wouldnt book just to visit Disney.

True, but if you go all that way and are only staying 3 nights then it seems a small amount to spend and they are worth every penny.

I love Disneyland in California, it was Walt's first park and he was actually there, so it feels special -well it did to me anyway! His apartment is above the fire station and there's a lamp always lit in the window, in his memory. I personally love the castle, it's really cute! There are some different rides, Indiana jones was brilliant, and we also enjoyed Fantasmic, we booked the package where you get a seat and a plate of cakes! It was very moving, lol, I think because you're nearer to it than at WDW, it just gets you! We enjoyed California Adventure too, we just loved all of it. We stayed at the Grand californian hotel, which was a great location, but the rooms are a bit small for 4 people.
Universal Hollywood does have the tour, we saw the Desperate Housewives set, but I still prefer the Universal parks and setup in Orlando, with their own hotels on the doorstep. We stayed at the Hollywood Renaissance which is slap bang in the middle of the Walk of Fame etc and only 1 stop on the train or a short taxi ride to Universal. We're hoping to go back next Summer, fingers crossed!

Don't want to start an argument, we didn't like Universal in Hollywood as much as Universal in Orlando, but I wouldn't have missed the experience. The Hollywood backlot tour is the real deal & you can still see the construction work from the recent fire. The rides are almost identical.
Sorry I would vote for Orlando being the better park
