Travel insurance very expensive.

So just looking at insurance for this years trip. Pervious years paid about £150 for a family of 4. I have 2 declared conditions, Ulcerative colitis which is mainly controlled through meds, no hospital admissions in last couple of years outside of routine colonoscopy's. The other is a Bicuspid heart valve which was diagnosed about 10 years ago but is something I have apparently had from birth. Never caused me any issues, I just have to have ECG and scans every couple of years to keep a check on it but last round of check ups were all good.

I just did some quotes inputting the same information and I'm getting £400 plus. Its baffled me a bit but the only other piece of relevant information is I turned 50 last year.

My question is, is holiday insurance going through massive prices increases vs prior years or do you hit a premium once you hit 50?

Last year I paid £399 for family insurance, I have cancer and my wife has a few issues. This year its is £299, I was surprised it reduced. This is through Tesco Bank insurance, I even made a claim in March this year because I had to cancel a European trip due to hospitalisation.

I am 51 now.

Hey! We just took out an annual policy today with the Post Office. Family of 5. Several pre-existing including heart defect, cancer Crohns and it was £366. Previous years we had a policy with TUI for just over £200 but this year they wouldn’t renew!? Despite not claiming. So we are seeing same increase as you.

Is your quote for an annual policy or single trip? If it’s single trip, then price up annual policy. It works out cheaper for us.

In 2022 I paid £28 for just me for a seven day USA single trip with no conditions, this year I paid £75 for the same thing 🙄 Outrageous and that was the cheapest I could find too. Other places wanted far more.

My husband has 2 stents fitted and type 2 diabetes( on insulin). We were originally quoted £1700 but eventually got another quote negotiated down to £760. Have never made a claim on insurance in all our years of travelling!

I have dilated cardiomyopathy, controlled by medication and have annual echos & 24-72 hour ecgs as monitoring, and bile acid malabsorption caused by a gastric bypass nearly 3 years ago, so having regular scans and colonoscopies, all declared on my insurance. We have an annual policy, but mine has doubled this year. I have had no admissions relating to either problems in well over 5 years. It's infuriating! I just went to Riga for the weekend, and brought a single trip policy for £20, but going to Lanzarote in a few weeks, so need to get insurance for that, plus Florida in December. In the next 3 weeks, I have a scan, scope & a 7 day heart monitor so waiting to get those out of the way before I do another policy.

DH has had a heart attack, asthma, urticaria and arthritis (he is now 52) but all conditions controlled and no mobility issues with the arthritis. I was getting quotes for £960ish (last year was £490 so an insane difference). I upgraded my Halifax account to premium plus account and paid £260 to over his health conditions! My conditions were free (and was going to be between £130 and £180 anywhere else I looked)

Annual travel insurance for the family is over 2K but that covers everything.

I have M.S, I've had a heart attack, I have other assorted issues and I have breast cancer. I would perform naked cartwheels through the centre of Manchester if I could get my travel insurance for £400 😆
