How does flight connections work when it comes to delays?

Assuming a flight lands half an hour late to a connecting airport but that half hour causes you to miss your connecting flight, resulting in a delay of many hours or a day or more.

Do you get entitled to the refund/compensation related to your overall delays? Or will they say you didn't make your second flight so there's nothing due.

You will be put on the next available flight. This could take a few hours or a few days.
What the do for you depends on the reason for the delay and whether the airline is at fault or not (e.g. weather related delays).
This assumes both flights are on the same ticket.

This is one of the main reasons we always look for fours in a connection as missing the flight can be very stressful.
