We've been to Tenerife, the south is very, very touristy, we hated it (but had sadly booked to stay there). The North seemed so much nicer, we visited quite a few times. People actually living and working, rather than just selling cheap breakfasts and beer. A lovely lady at the botanical garden/museum sent us to a wonderful cheese festival way up in the hills - fantastic!

We would be the same, we like a nice hotel but prefer local culture and it’s so hard to make a choice and get it right.

Mogan in Gran Canaria should suit, as far south as you can go so the best of the weather, very quiet and not to far from Puerto Rico if you want some nightlife.

I've been to gran canara, maspolomas is lovely, you e all the sand dunes there and can go on camel and buggy rides. We are looking at Puerto Rico for next year but from what I remember that's very hilly... Think my hips can still cope though 😂

We love Puerto Rico (was there last week) we go about 4 time’s a year!

Yes it’s hilly but if you get a hotel on beach or marina (morasol, marina suits, Gloria palace are great) it’s a really nice level walk to anywhere.

I'm a huge fan of Lanzarote, either Puerto Del Carmen or Playa Blanca. The latter is more upper market especially around the Marina.

Lanzarote, Playa Blanca. Stayed a few times when we just wanna relax. Doesn’t feel too touristy but has enough about to keep you busy.
Tenerife is great if you like water parks and more action. But I find it a bit too touristy. Still enjoy the times we’ve had there.

Another vote for Playa Blanca in Lanzarote. We went last year, in May admittedly, but it was certainly very pleasant to wander about the resort.

This year we stayed in El Medano, a really nice “locals” town and a short drive from the airport. Quite cheap as well - a small beer around €1.80, G&T (large! ) €4.00, and good value restaurants. We stayed HB in a hotel, but could swap dinner for lunch thereby allowing us to sample the local area.
