A little Worried...

Hi All

I am hoping you will all put my mind at rest about a few things that are bothering me with regards to my first trip to Vegas.

I have read in several trip reports about men who are very pushy with cards of woman, Are these people really bad? Also some people have mentioned its a very dirty place? I know these may sound like very trivial things to some people but I panic about most things and these are making me not want to go!

Please tell me i'm being silly!

Been to Vegas 3 times now and love the place.
The card thing, there are people out on the sidewalks (both men and women, usually mexican)trying to hand you cards with women on them, they can seem annoying and pushy, but they are not allowed to talk to you or touch you, so just march on and it is only a slight annoyance.

As for cleanliness there are a few grubby parts at the low end casinos and downtown, but the strip is mostly good and the big casino strip hotels are great. Stayed at the Wynn last time and best Hotel I have ever stayed at. Would love to go back, but with 2 young kids it is not the place for them.

The men (and women) giving out the cards seemed to be congregated in areas away from the big casinos ie outside supermarkets etc. We never had a problem, we just walked on by.
We were only there for a few days so never got as far as the grubby parts of town, the areas we were in were all clean and tidy.
You will have a great time, try to stop worrying.

Its not just men who try and hand out the cards, many women do as well but as others have mentioned a firm "no thanks" or even just ignoring them totally is the best way to avoid.

Litter isn't really too much of an issue but certainly the cards that are given out by the people as mentioned above often find their way onto the pavements as people realise what they have been handed.
I think the "dirty" tag has cropped up on other forums in recent years and is often attributed to the constant construction work that creates obvious mess. Sure, a construction site isn't a pleasant place to walk past but that is going to be the case in Vegas for some time especially as progress has stalled on some projects due to the financial uncertainty.

Areas around the major hotels and on the Strip itself are all usually well cared for. I wouldn't let it worry you at all...

Dont let the card flickers bother you, as others have said if you just walk by you can easy ignor them.

Everywhere where we went was clean enough, ok some of the cards had been thrown to the floor but they are cleaned up on a regular basis.

You will have a fab time

Totally agree with all the above comments.

After about 4pm, the card people tend to come out. Don't take one off them, they won't hassle you.

Lots of dropped cards are around as people realise what they have been given, but they are cleaned up every day.

It really is nothing to worry about.

The card flickers really annoyed me to the point that we gave up trying to walk the strip one night to look at all the bright lights and returned to our Hotel. I was with my husband and 2 children (DS 8, DD 14) - we made it quite clear we were all together but that did not stop them shoving these cards at us every few yards. My son who normally is not phased by much really did not like these people approaching us and wanted to know why they were giving us cards with naked ladies on.

Its not a problem in my opinion, just avoid eye contact and keep walking. They only seemed to be near the construction sites and never to close to the big hotels.

The card people aren't pushy at all, just the same as people in any city or town handing out flyers. Jack avoided them for the first day or two, but then decided to see how many cards he could collect in a sort of trading card game type fashion, lol.

The peolpe will never force a card on you, or look at you or talk to you, if you ignore them nothing bad will happen at all.

Downtown is a bit rough, but still absolutely fine. And the area near circus circus is a little run down, but I didn't find anyone unpleasant or anything dirty at all in vegas really.

Certainly nothing to worry about. xx
