My ds (14) gets phone contract paid, £25 paid into a trust fund and £20 paid into a current account. We try very hard to make him save and be careful with his money but he seems to buy rubbish :/

My 11 & 14 year olds gets £10 a week for socialising etc, KFC with friends or wander round the shops. We are finding it's not really enough and
I cannot expect them to save any of it for Florida as it's just not enough to go round.

If they are spending this amount of money so easily I think you need to tighten the reigns a bit. Some people are rubbish with money and spend it in an instant without thinking things through ... these are the ones who have to realise all the money is earned through hard work in the first place and needs to be valued. If they need more money, I would tell them they need to do some chores to earn it e.g. Take out the bin every week for £2, vacuum the house for £5.
Our son is 7 and we already have him earning money in return for chores. But I think he is the saver type. |

DS11 gets £20 a month direct debit into his account. He doesnt spend any of it as he is saving up for a car! He also saves his birthday money and christmas money. He has over £1000 saved up now. He gets £3 a week off grandma and grandad and £1 a week off nan. He saves that for cinema, mcdonalds etc with his mates. We buy his basic clothes but if he wants expensive trainers, tracksuits etc then he has to wait for his birthday/ christmas
As your DD is 14 could she perhaps get a little job to earn money. My DS cant wait until he is old enough to earn some extra money Edited at 08:26 AM. |

Hi
My 14yr old gets nothing but then he is bone idol and doesnt do anything around the house. i think £30 is more than generous especially as your paying for everything else as well. My son doesnt really go out with his mates so doesnt really need any money

I'm skint after paying that out lol

7 is a bit difffent to teenagers though !
If my son who's 14 wants to go to the cinema or into town with friends it's £4 on the bus , cinema ticket is £5 and that's without buying a drink or any food . £10 per week does not go far at all Bit different at 7 when I assume he doesn't really go out without you . |

I think this is a bit harsh. £10 is not a lot to spend. A KFC or similar will be £6 £7, more required for Nando's or the likes, and if it is not within walking distance they will then need bus fares on top of that which will range a lot depending on the part of the country. That is only one outing for a couple of hours so by no means excessive.
