German train fine help.

Took me a while to get used to it, I travel by train in Germany quite a bit for work...there is normally a little red post you put the ticket in to punch it

I have been warned on the train [shouted at in German..!]...before I knew how to validate it, but never got the fine
My boss did get fined for going the wrong way trying to get back to the airport once...will ask how he paid it and come back if its any use

Online in this case means via online banking, not an online web page.

If you have the name of the organisation to be paid, their IBAN and BIC reference numbers (international bank account and sort code) along with the fine reference number (often an EBE reference) then you can pay the fine online.

Have you got these details on the fine document?

If you do it online via your banking as it is an EU payment I don't believe there is a charge any more, but not certain. If you do it via a branch they will charge you.

Yes those details seem to be on the ticket. So I can do a bank transfer online to them? I’ve never done an online bank transfer before so not sure i feel confident enough, I’ll ask in the branch first.

Whilst it doesn't help you now, it will say on the ticket it requires validating. Haven't been to Munich for a few years but if I remember it says it at the top.

Its the norm in Germany.

Yes, you can with most and its not really much different to doing it within the UK. My online banking has an option for "sending money outside of the UK" which then tales you through the IBAN process.

Have a look to see if you have similar with your bank, if you do, then have a look and hopefully it will be straight forward as you appear to have all the information you need. Just use the ref number you have blanked out in any additional fields or as the transferred from details.

This happened to us in Rome but thankfully the conductor took pity on us whilst also ranting in Italian

If he has no plans to go back to Germany then I would ignore it completely. Just wait and see how far they are willing to go to get hin to pay. I'm not even sure they can enforce it in another country. I somehow doubt they would even bother chasing hin for it to be honest.
