broken tooth

Any advice?

Teach me to have my hand in the fridge. The side of my tooth has cracked off. It's one of the teeth on the side of my mouth. The tooth had a large filling in it.

What can they do with it?

I had to have mine removed when it broke .
If you leave it it could get infected

I've had it happen three times now. Dentist said fillings are quite big so not much tooth. The one at the slide with just two prongs iykwim has been built up again in the colour that matches my other teeth. Further back ones, one has a filling and the other has cement in it but that' ones right at the back.

I’ve had it happen with two teeth. The first had to be removed, but the second they did a root canal and then put an inlay on the tooth (a bit like a crown). Amazingly the treatment was painless (& I have a phobia of dental treatment), this was quite a few years ago and I never have problems with it.

It depends who you go to. An NHS dentist will be obliged to perform the cheapest option that works whereas a private dentist will offer you several e.g a gold crown, a white crown, possibly a white filling (which increases the strength of the remaining tooth as mercury fillings don't), repair or removal or replacement will be up to you.
Since I found out how white and mercury fillings differ I now ALWAYS pay the extra for white fillings as they save money in the long run

I've got an overlay on one broken tooth, a crown on another. Both are white, but my dentist argued my case for me and told me how he could justify it as it was stronger I think...

Tbh I'm not too fussed by the colour as the tooth cant really be seen. Just hoping he can do something with it. It's just the side and I'm not feeling any pain. I now think I've had a fracture for a while as I have a groove there. I also teeth grind and have constant reflux. So my enamel is very weak. Fingers crossed it's an easy fix

I had a similar thing. Dentist A told me that they couldn't do much with it, so just put some cement on it to try and keep it there whilst I decided if I wanted it removed/replaced. She said it could not have a crown as there wasn't enough there.

A few months later I changed dentists, and Dentist B told me I could definitely have a crown no problem. So I did that and it's been fine since.

So if you don't like the answer - get a second opinion!
