getting a boarding group in HS

As i understand it, they let you into HS early and then have you wait in the main walkway.

Then at a time they open the boarding groups for booking (at a given time).

At this point do you just see all the people in the holding area frantically on their phones all trying to hit refresh or apply trying to get a boarding group.

is it like trying to get tickets for Glastonbury and the app crashes, its slow etc.. or can it handle the number of people all trying to get boarding groups at the same time?

How successful is everyone? do you here a lot of people then getting cross that their app didn't work, their GPS shows them outside the park and getting up at 4am was a waste of time

Thanks all

We went the other day - the parks have been extremely busy since we’ve been here, Epcot car park has been full! We didn’t arrive until about 6.55, by that time people were being let in. we were in a big queue but it moved fast and everyone was very well behaved, no pushing, all walking and sticking to rules. Staff were watching and shouting out if anyone started running etc. Also being told to move from the entrance before starting to try for a Rise of resistance pass. My husband and son went off and and headed for Tower of terror. He couldn’t get the internet to work for a while, he said they were in the line for the ride when he eventually got the internet to work (using Disney internet). This was at about 7.30am. They were given boarding group 166. So they were in a standby group, only groups up to group 122 were guaranteed to ride and if the ride ran smoothly etc then they’d get called back- they got called back at about 8.30pm but their boarding group was the last to be called, they had to return before 10.03pm.

What should be happening is people are let through and scan tickets. Then held until the official opening time of HS, an announcement over the PA system is made to say the park is open.
Then the frantic refreshing of the app starts. This means that everyone who is through can grab the first groups.

I just commented on a different thread - our experience of getting a boarding pass was that we were in the park just before 7, at 7 I tried to join a boarding group but the button was greyed out. I tried refreshing the page, logged in and out etc. My husband also tried on his phone and went in straight away. No idea why. Both on three 4g, using iPhones. Mine is an older model though and I have read some comments on fb saying that newer phones seem better. Maybe processing speed? No idea really! But I was glad that we both tried.

We rode it twice over the holiday and it was absolutely amazing, well worth the early start!

We were a 6am opening. Got there at 5:25 into the park by 5:45 then waiting until it opened at 6am. On straight away (I went in via my status button) using 4G and got boarding group 41. Myself and my husband were both on my MDE account I was just quicker. The numbers I think may well be slightly random or based on number. We were a group of 6 a group of 3 standing by us got on a minute late and got 32

RoR then went down until 8:45 am so we were boarding group between 10:35 to 12:35 (would have been earlier)

I am not sure if the internet crashes as have 4G.

Then after 3/4 mins its proper rope drop and rush to either Smugglers Run or Slinky Dog

Seems those on 4G have a potentially higher success rate of lower boarding groups as other using WiFi experience issues with a large volume of folk trying to use the system at the same time. We go in Feb so watching for developments on the way this ride is being handled.
