Stupid question ...
Hoping to go back next August and will shortly be looking for flights.
DD turns 12 on 1st September. We were looking at leaving Orlando on 30 or 31 August. Obviously if we leave on 31 August when we land in the Uk it would be 1st September and her birthday where she will be 12. So what age would I put on the booking? Obviously she would be 11 when we leave and 12 when we arrive. Wouldn't normally matter except some airlines class 12 as adult fare? And yes, there are probably much better ways for her to spend her birthday, but we would celebrate it there and back home with her friends (and it would beat this year where it was her first day back at school). |

Im not sure but common sense (which the airlines dont have) would dictate her age is the one at which she sits down in her seat and takes off - thus 11

It's age on return but your one is tricky. Technically when she leaves to fly home she will still be 11.

Maybe airline dependent, I know Ryanair are age when you depart yet I believe BA is age on return.

If we leave Orlando on 31 August, check in and get on the plane and start the flight, she will still be 11. She will technically turn 12 mid way through the flight. That's why I'm confused lol. If she turned 12 whilst we were still in Orlando then I know most airlines would say it's the age on return, but I've always taken that as age when you board the flight if you see what I mean?
I know I'm probably splitting hairs and there not a massive amount of money involved. It's just one of those random things I'm curious to know the answer to lol. My head is hurting now lol and I haven't even started looking for flights yet ha ha Edited at 05:26 PM. |

This happened to us in 2012 and I couldn't get the online system to accept her either as a child or an adult. It kept saying there was an error no matter which we chose. In the end we had to phone the airline and make the booking over the phone. I think we paid adult price, but as you say, not much difference in prices anyway.

Excited about Disney

I've always thought it's the age you are when you depart for your holiday, not the date you are on return.
