Going to the loo
Can anyone suggest food to eat that would help make your bowels move.
I have a great appetite and healthy weight 10st 3 (female aged 45). For some reason I never need the toilet. I maybe go once a week if I'm lucky. I'm not constipated, I just don't need to go and it really annoys me. My diet consists of bran flakes for breakfast - snack on apples, kiwi and mango - dinner is salad and fish or veg stir frys. I have a takeaway indian once a fortnight and have some crisps or chocolate at the weekends. I don't drink fizzy juice just water. Any suggestions? I have tried things like dates and gigs but nothing works |

Why do you feel you need to go more often? If you have a healthy diet and are not constipated then the frequency of bowel motion is entirely personal and this may simply be the required frequency for you.
Of course if you have a change of bowel habit, bleeding, pain bloating etc you should see your GP. |

Sounds like your digestive transit is slower than some. That is not a problem.
If it has changed to be so recently, then that needs looking at, but do not try to change long-standing bowel habits that do not cause problems. With bowels - if it ain't broke don't meddle is the big go-to. |

OP. How much liquid are you drinking per day?
I found this if it helps. To prevent dehydration, you need to drink adequate amounts of water. There are many different opinions on how much water you should be drinking every day. Health authorities commonly recommend eight 8-ounce glasses, which equals about 2 liters, or half a gallon. This is called the 8×8 rule and is very easy to remember That shocked me as I thought it would be less. Sadly my intake is almost exclusively coffee.

If you're eating a healthy diet, you will have very little 'waste' as you will use everything you're taking on board.
Constipation is very uncomfortable. Doesn't sound like you have symptoms of constipation though? |

Thanks guys. I've always been like this but lately it's annoying me as I'm always bloated and I think the reason is I'm not getting rid of any waste!
I always drink about 3 glasses a day but I'm so busy at work I forget. I'll try and make an effort to drink more and see if that helps x |

Try upping your water intake. If your bowels are dry it slows the movement.

As well as having a good fluid intake, exercise is important too as it helps things move along. Do you do any exercise? Even a good brisk walk helps as long as it gets the blood pumping
Healthy oils, such as olive oil, helps lubricate the way too. It might also be worth adding a probiotic yoghurt too in case your gut flora isn't as healthy as it should be.

The minimum recommendation is 8 glasses a day.
Get yourself a 1ltr bottle. Just make sure you drink 1 before lunch and 1 after lunch then if you can again in the evening. Your bowels need water to function properly. You could also think about a colonic irrigation to get things going? 🙈 Xx |

Just to point out that water actually means fluid, so tea and coffee do count but balance it against the diuretic. Same goes for squash and fizzy drinks.
A change in bowel habit should be observed and checked out but twice a week is normal for some people.
