When collecting our car we have always been given the choice of about 15 or more cars of the class we booked
This is just a different point of view to other Dibbers.
That sounds reasurring thank you.

Bondy. My money is on you not Dollar!

Bertiebear. These are the big upsells they try:-

1. You wont fit in the car. You know you will
2. You must have PAI (Personal Accident Insurance) it's the Law. No it's not and actually that's your travel insurance for medical cover anyhow
3. Roadside assistance package. If you dont have it and break down you will have to pay to be towed. No you wont, their car and in a bump or a mechanical issue they will recover it.
4. Toll package. Around Orlando you don't need it but you must not go through the SunPass lanes without stopping and paying or you will get fleeced. But you know what you want so ignore them if you dont want it.

Finally even if it takes an hour do not leave that counter without $0 showing on the contract. Also ensure they haven't ticked the boxes that you do want something when in fact you dont. They will recalculate your invoice after you have gone otherwise and you will return to a bill!

I have experienced all of their little scams in over 50 trips to Orlando.

They tried 2 and 3 from Toms list on me at LAX. I held my ground and very firmly said no thanks to all the veiled threats. Eventually she said “well I hope you don’t crash” sarcastically and and literally threw the rental agreement and my cc at me across the desk and called for next customer. Charming lady!

I do recall there was some sort of express programme where you could go straight to the garage because they were looking for anyone signed up in the regular line which was 90mins long. If that’s an option I would join. And as others have said make 200% sure the contact is for $0 Take your time. If they present you with just the signature line fold out the paper/scroll down the screen and read it all looking for any extras and stand your ground if they try anything on the list, say no and give no justifications or explanations, just a very firm N-O.

Jumping in here but I’m hiring through dollar and would it be frowned upon if I got my DW to record the conversation on a mobile to proove I’ve refused every hard sell?
Then any later tricks to charge me I have recorded proof of refusing them?
Just a thought.

Mmm, I think that's a bridge too far sadly.

To be honest I thought it would be however with everyone constantly on their mobiles these days I might try it very covertly. 😉

One for you to decide, I wouldn't.
But what I would do is be fully briefed on scams, have a little piece of printed paper in my hand saying.
Check
Doubt
Check again
No I don't want an upgrade
Check again!

Unless they are aware they are being recorded you would not be able to use it.

I’ve already taken a screen shot of your previous advice and I will have it in hand throughout the whole process.
Thanks for the help.
