Usually I find Alamo Brits the most expensive when I start looking in mid Decemeer, this year I have already booked with them as i discovers thanks to posts on here you could pay when you got there, so that's what I did, thank goodness.

In my experience the prices of most of the other renters comes down the week before Christmas, so keep checking. Last year I booked with Hertz after finding a code on flyer talk that you could use when paying with an American Express card. The previous time we went to the states I booked with Auto Europe, and before that we had the good old Hertz glitch. So keep checking. The prices usually shoot up again after Christmas though.

I've just had a look on Kayak and Budget prices look similar to what I paid with Alamo Brits.

We've made our reservation for four weeks Midsize SUV in April/May 2015 for GBP 510. Same period would cost now GBP 710. I wonder what's going on there...

I have used Alamo enough times to know the price will go up and go down a number of times over the year, it just happens. When I see a go price i book it knowing i can cancel and get a refund if the price goes down or pay on arrival and just cancel.

We booked in September after reading a thread on here saying they had bargain prices. We paid £328 for a 7 seater van for last 2 weeks of July 2015. Just had a look and same van is now over £600. So glad I took the advice from the thread in September.

Well I've booked it now. Booked Int SUV for 15 days at Easter with Alamo for £336. Much cheaper than I've seen elsewhere and now get to use Savetime!

I've booked with Virgin for the last two trips as a fair bit cheaper than Alamo Brits. Actually this year I booked and paid with Alamo Brits as wanted the additional driver, Virgin then had an offer of a free additional driver so I cancelled my standard SUV hire with Alamo and rebooked with Virgin saving nearly £90 on a 17 day car hire. It does pay to shop around as the Minivan was more expensive with Virgin but the standard SUV much lower with them.

i've actually found the intermediate SUV is just not showing for my dates anymore. It's £533 on the full website so with brits it should be around £480 which i'd pay right now! but it's not showing! only standard SUV :/
