Food looking goood!

How is applebees generally pretty decent? Just there is one attached to the Holiday Inn am staying at and would be handy for a quick meal. Never been to one before.

Seems to be a steakhouse thing, they are more likely to use beef stock base (it's veg in the classic French recipe) so you get a deeper flavour.
Thanks Al, it’s definitely on the list.
How’s the Christmas shopping coming along?

French onion soup

It won’t win ‘soup of the trip’ award but it was perfectly ok.

Quesadilla burger

Supposed to sub fries for Mac and cheese but ended up with both

Cheeseburger

Both burgers were cooked as requested and were moist and tasty, service good too.

The quesadilla burger looked delicious 😋

This was our first visit to the new expanded version of Beaches n Cream.

Guiness

Reuben with cheesy bacon tots

Grilled cheese with tomato soup

A bit different to The Palm’s offerings but I really enjoyed mine and P reckoned it was the best grilled cheese she’s ever had.

Service was great too.

The bald fella offers good service here. Did you see him?

Yeah Applebees is on our usually a safe bet list. I think one attached to a hotel would be even better, the hotel aren’t going to want to be associated with a dodgy restaurant.

Loving the report so far - so many good ways to mention. Your sunset pic from HRH are gorgeous and your view form BC is lovely.

It seems there’s quite a shift in quality at WDW and when you compare it to your off site eats it’s very noticeable.

Always brings me back to needing a car (when debating keeping costs down by not getting one) and the additional expense but probably off settled by a few off site meals.

Law of averages meant we were due an underwhelming experience and sadly this time it was Yachtsman’s turn to deliver it. Partly my fault for not checking the menu out closely before we went but it’s been cut back quite a bit.

It started with the the cocktail - choice of 10 now down to five, no problem

I’ll have a whisky breeze - we’re out. Maybe a Tito martini then pickled onion instead of the olive ? - we don’t have the onion. Lemon peel ? I’ll have to ask the barman. Luckily he found some.

Tito and sour apple martini

Tried to order the wine next - bottle of the Macmurray no 205 - we don’t have that either

It then dawned on me that the appetisers had been dumbed down to give the kitchen an easy start. The 2 hot apps were both soups and the other four were cold. Where had the crab cakes, scallops, mussels, beef raviolo etc gone?

Thankfully the bread hasn’t changed

I tried the shrimp cocktail

Which was ok, the shrimp were nice and tender but the sauce was nothing remarkable

P had the carpaccio

And I nicked a taste and both agreed it was nice.

Next mistake I’ll totally admit was mine - I persuaded P to Oscar style her steak

She didn’t feel like the crab was as good an add on as the lobster might have been and the asparagus was like ‘chewy tree trunks’ plus at least an ounce of the steak was sinewy.

My pick was the fish of the day - red snapper

Not a great pick, I don’t think the sauce and accompaniments suited the white fish but that might just be me.

Service was ok, nothing special and it wasn’t his fault things were out of stock but it didn’t get things off to a great start.

Oh no I’ve always found Yachtsman to be a safe lovely meal - disappointing that they’ve dropped standards - sounds they have scaled back on the starters as I’ve had cracking crab cakes before now. Sorry it wasn’t up to the old standards x
