What does everyone call the spare bits of batter that is left in the fryer... do you even ask for any on your chips?
They were called scrantions-no idea if that is actually a word or spelling is anywhere near correct!-when I was little but the chip shop in Liverpool didn’t have a clue what I meant when I moved there...

Scraps even M&S sell them now

I'm from Ireland and was so confused the first time I went into a chippy in England - all I could see was fish & chips - where were the burgers. In fairness I haven't been to many but the posts so far all refer to fish too so I'm assuming that's the norm. Chippies here in Ireland do sell fish for those who want it but burgers and chicken are much more popular.

To keep this slightly on topic I looked up the prices in my local chippy here in the south east of Ireland:
Cod €4.80 (GBP £4.00 - the only fish listed on app)
Plain chips €2.30 (£1.95 - they are huge - easily do 2)
Curry chip €3.90 (£3.30)
Salad burger (my favourite) €2.60 (£2.20)
Sausage €1 (£0.85), battered sausage €2 (£1.70)

Thanks - had never heard of a roll being called a muffin. In our area it is a cake item either sweet or could be savoury. Same as a tea cake tends to be an enriched dough with dried fruits which are split and toasted and served with butter and jam not filled with chips.

Med Cod - 8.50
Chips -2.50
Battered sausage -2.50
Peas - 1.90

This is in South East England. I miss my homeland of South Wales, not so much for the prices (which incidentally I’ve found to be significantly cheaper) but for the rissoles and the option of gravy!
