Signing into hotmail abroad. Help please

I remember last time I went to Florida, Italy and even The Isle of Man I couldn’t log in!
It was a security thing and drove me batty. I don’t want the same thing this time as I receive a lot of stuff that way. Can anyone shed any light on what it might be and how I can avoid it?

I had this last year so I now have a second email address with a different company this year still could not get on my hotmail emails, but was able to use the second account ok. I did call them last year and they wanted £100 fee so I could view my emails when abroad I told them no thanks.

This has always driven me mad when touring. New location and hotmail doesn’t believe it is you. This year they advised me to download a verification app to stop it. Brilliant - not. No idea how it was supposed to work as I still had to go through their security pages.
