Bristol and Croyde Bay
We weren't meant to be going away this year as have a big Florida trip planned for next year but have ended up booking a last minute break for the end of August.
We will be staying 2 nights at the Future Inn in Bristol - we have stayed here before and like the location next to Cabot Circus - and then 4 nights in Croyde Bay in Devon. Any recommendations for things to do in either place - it is myself, DH and DD (13) who will need to use a wheelchair if it involves lots of walking (ASD and some physical limitations). Hopefully the weather in Devon will be good as I was hoping to spend most of the time chilling on the beach. If not we will need some ideas of other stuff to do. Dining recommendations would also be appreciated in both places. Thanks.

Hi,Bristol has the “Gromit Unleashed 2” trail on until 2 nd September , it is great fun finding all the Gromits, Wallaces and Feathers Mcgraw’s . There are 67 altogether and quite a few of them are near where you are staying , there is an app you can buy or a free map you can pick up . It is for Bristol Royal Hospital for children charity.

We loved Croyde wasn't hot but we were still on the beach every day or at Saunton sands just down the road. Can recommend the tacos at blue groove cafe in Croyde and the food and view from beachside grill on saunton sands.

Not sure if you’ve been yet but I know croyde very well! Camped down there since being a child to now. Done just about everything in a 50 mile radius!
Beaches. If you are staying in croyde you can walk to this local beach. It has a stream running through it. Fabulous surfing - very busy. My favourite is round the headland and called puttsborough. You can walk round baggy point from croyde to puttsborough then back down the road into croyde. Parking at this beach is a rip off st £8. Saunton beach is another favourite and they’ve now introduced a pay per hour system instead of the £8 whatever so it’s a lot better now. Saunton sand hotel is gorgeous - go for afternoon tea or a drink. Eats - blue groove is good. For pizza and nachos and the surf buzz try billy buds. For picture postcard try the thatch. Across the road from blue groove there is a new coffee shop / deli which is good. In high season the have mobile pizza ovens outside here which are also good. All in croyde. There’s a beach cafe on saunton beach with a roof top are which is very good. Brauton (you will pass through to get to croyde) has squires for fish and chips and many other eateries like Indian, etc. Ilfracombe is about 20 mins away and is a pretty seaside town with boat trips, cinema, crazy golf, lots of places to eat. If you like shopping Barnstaple is ok - nice town. Kids? For younger ones watermouth castle is good. The big sheep and the Milky Way are also a nice day out. Don’t expect Alton towers! clovelly is unusual and very pretty. You can cycle the tarka trail - lovely and scenic rod., Sorry I could go on and on! Tons more but that’s more than enough for a few days! Edited at 08:30 AM. |

Brilliant, thanks.
We go down to Bristol on Saturday for a couple of nights and then onto Croyde. We are staying at the Unison Croyde Bay Resort which I think has access right onto the beach.

Yes it does. The beach is split in 2 by the stream and unison brings you out on the quieter end of the beach. It is a really lovely part of the country 👍
