United to LA / SF
Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone had flown United to San Francisco or Los Angeles (and back again). How was it? I’m pricing up flights and they are coming out cheapest but not sure what the flight / airplane is like? |

I flew from LHR to LAX about 6/7 years ago with United. We upgraded to premium economy at the airport and it was the best decision I made. There were maybe about 10/15 other people in that section so we had a whole row each to ourselves, and I barely noticed the time pass for the long flight. United is normally my choice of airline, so I have flown with them many times since then I flew with them in June for our Orlando trip. Food is fine for what it is, they came round a lot with drinks that were free, but as above, you have to pay for the alcoholic ones. The only point I would make is that this was the first year that I've flown with them and they had all the tv's removed for you to use your own device. I was emailed beforehand, and there were multiple signs in the airport to warn of this, but we needed to download the United app on to our own devices and then there was a clip on the back of the seats to hold it on

we have flown united twice indirect to orlando
just as good as any other airline ie/ nothing special but get you there in relative comfort & ontime*.. planes just as good as anyone elses, had ife but now i think you use their app ? one time we got upgraded to economy+ as ife was broken in our seats and whilst it was a bit more room i wouldnt pay what they ask for it.. if its a few quid more then fill your boots * did have a massive delay outbound one year but got compensation by way x3 pre loaded visa cards which we used to book for the next year.. delays can hit any airline and to be fair they sorted us out with hotel/vouchers/next day flight as good as to be expected |

Thanks all, that’s really good to know. I’m never super fussed about the flight portion as I just see it as a means to an end, but it always nice to hear people have had good experiences.

Just arrived back today on United. Outbound flight to NY was lovely inside, clean, modern seating was 2-4-2 with seat back tv and charging point. Connection to Tampa was the same although not as new inside. Return yesterday/overnight, connection to Washington DC was same as before but IAD to LHE the plane was a 777 and was old inside. Fabric seats covers no charge point but was roomy - seating was 3-3-3. Felt old but we were knackered and just slept, wasn't really bothered about luxury.
Our flight NY-Tampa was delayed and not clear comms from United. i struggled to get free wifi in Newark and on the board it said 2 extra hr delay on top of out layover for 3 hrs. Times and gates kept changing and we were glued to the board. Comms at airport were rubbish. Food was excellent and loads of refreshments. It was 1st transatlantic flight I have been on that they didn't flog duty free. |
