iirc took us about 90 minutes to get to epcot from disney springs, time we worked out a route and waited for buses etc

was a total pita on the way back when you we could have just jumped in the car and be supping a cool beer inside of 20-30 mins

They'd be better off walking through DS and catching buses from SSR since DS buses are limited early morning as DS itself doesn't really open until 10am so there's no reason to be returning to the resorts before then. But by that point, I would have long paid for an Uber. I like walking but that's just too much faff to save a fiver.

Get them to price a value resort to use the actual park buses. IME, it's around the same cost of a DS area resort anyway.

Don't most of the DS neighbourhood resorts have thier own transport to the parks? Not sure what times they run though.
