The "long range" part has a battery & that only really used to affect the ride videos like on 7DMT, I didn't know about the bluetooth part that YT is talking about & that basically covers that bit so any old bands still connected to your MDE will work.
I know this hasn't been said for a while but a MB is basically a "key" to enter your info on MDE, there is no information on it it, it is just the key.

What is the difference between the current magic bands and the ones they are bringing out later this year please - Is it worth waiting ?

The new ones have some haptics and lights that will interact with features around the parks. Examples they've given are some effects in Galaxy's Edge and lights during the fireworks.

Everything else is the same.

You can use your phone, or if you have an Apple Watch (or I assume any other smart watch) that works exactly the same as the magic band. I’ve used my watch for this whole trip with no issues.
