Alligator alley Route 75 as mentioned up thread is bland and straight up , we drove it for the first time last month and we always see more wildlife on the 41
Including a massive dead alligator on the roadside once which was bit of an eye opener to our usual roadkill!

Sorry can't help with stopping for food , we normally take our own.

We saw the same ... huge alligator roadkill with about 20 vultures on it!
We always use this route ... lots to see, including America's smallest post office! Side trip to Everglades City is always good and this time in February we're going a bit further to Chockoloskee. See trip report in signature.

A route I would recommend is the Tamiami Trail , stopping at Shark valley , depending on the time of year , We have been twice in January and you almost trip over the alligators
However you cannot do this and be in Clearwater the same day ( realistically )

The Tamaimi trail is a lovely drive

If you are leaving early in the morning, I don't see it as being an unrealistic drive.
