The only thing I'd trust immigration at Miami to do is take longer than you need it to.

Are you sure about this? They're travelling in May, not March.

Thanks all, I knew I’d get a straight answer here!

Just need to decide whether we get a hotel near the airport (had a pretty bad experience when we asked a taxi driver to recommend one after a flight canx once!) or drive for a while and stop off. I think there’s a big seafood event down at South Beach, and it’s a Saturday so lots of the hotel prices are inflated, maybe driving north is the way to go.

We have a cruise in May, this is a cheeky half term trip. I think the clocks possibly change on our first night, 24th October.

We land in Miami at 3pm and are planning on driving until we've had enough and then finding somewhere to sleep. Far more sleeping places (until Vero Beach) on the I95 route than the 27, although the 27 is a nicer drive.

I agree with others - collect your car from Miami and stay in a hotel somewhere nearby or a bit further north and then drive up the next morning. You'll highly likely be up early in the morning anyway plus after a long flight you don't want to be stressing about the first flight being delayed, faffing about with luggage, finding the correct terminal etc. x

I’d spend the night in Miami & then drive up to Orlando the next morning.

Like others have said, I too would rent a car from MIA and drive an hour north for likely cheaper accommodations and a more leisurely pace given you'll be tired. Drive up I-95 some 45 mins to Lauderdale or Deerfield and you'll be fine.

Thanks all - I'm checking out hotels at the FL/Deerfield area!
