Travel insurance through bank - adding a new condition
I have travel insurance through my bank (a travel package) which also covers OH. He went to the doctor yesterday after some blood tests showed his blood sugar was high. Dr thinks it is type 2 diabetes and he has to have another blood test on Monday. If that shows similar results, he will be referred to the diabetic clinic. I will, of course, have to notify the bank for the travel insurance and I’m wondering how this is likely to be affected. As it’s a set amount Per month for the package, is it likely they will increase the monthly cost or not cover him? In which case, we will need a separate policy for him. I will wait until the next bloods confirm it, just in case it was a blip but we travel in May so I’d like to get something sorted quite soon. Any thoughts or experience on this?

I have travel insurance with my bank TSB premier account & needed to declare a couple of conditions before last years holiday. They just quote you an add on price & once paid (for me it was £49) send you the upgraded paperwork proving cover for the next year. Of course if anything further changes you must contact them to ensure correct cover.
It made no difference to my monthly bank fee for the account

In my experience adding conditions on for both myself and Chris, and from working in a call centre selling an account with travel insurance, your monthly payment for the account will remain the same, you'll pay an upfront additional premium that you'll renew annually.

Ok. That makes sense. Thank you. I’ll still hold off until it’s officially confirmed (no point in jumping the gun) and then I’ll call and hopefully just have to pay an additional charge to get it covered.

We are covered through our bank. I had to notify them a couple of years ago that I had been in a car accident and had physio for Whiplash. They covered our USA trip at no extra cost as it was booked prior to my condition. A short break to Malaga had been booked after my accident and they wanted around £100 if I wanted Whiplash covered for that holiday, which I declined.

HSBC have a list of automatically covered conditioned in their policy document. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and use injections so phoned them and as arthritis is an included condition I am covered for anything associated at no extra charge. They sent out a letter to confirm that’s filed away somewhere.
Have you checked your insurance T’s and C’s to see if it says anything about medical conditions? ETA - this is from HSBC advance insurance Accepted conditions If these are the only medical conditions you have and none of the restrictions or the Health exclusions listed below apply, you will be automatically covered by this policy and we do not need to know about them. - Diabetes (no complications for example retinal, kidney or nerve damage) Edited at 08:44 PM. |

No I haven’t. They cover his asthma and my OA but I declared those when I took out the policy.

We have had a multitude of conditions and operations since having bank travel insurance. We always ring them and tell them but have never been charged any extra and usually get the letter saying we are covered within a few days. Always been very pleased with service

My package is with Barclays so maybe it will be covered. That would be good! We are happy to pay an additional premium, if necessary, to ensure he’s covered but it would be a plus if it was free.
