does booking direct with Disney avoid being moved

I have read a number of stories where travel agents are over selling hotel rooms and then moving guests to a different hotel.

I know this does happen all the time but if booking with Disney direct avoid that problem.

surely Disney know how many rooms they have got!

It "should" be as you say, however if you were moved I think you'd be in an even better position to get an improved hotel/room rather then be downgraded like some.

this is a problem predominantly impacting people thisyear

in previous years it has been significantly less of an issue (if at all) unless works on resort were announced in which case people were moved (mainly at their own request i think)

this year if you are with disney, you are safe and have your booking. if you have booked with most other operators you are also ok but virgin seem to have made a truly horrible hash of it this year and screwed a great many people over (though some have had some fab upgrades too it has to be said)

so yes disney booking is *better* but normally you are ok with other operators too

we have booked with ATD for next easter and we are fine, linked, all sorted for example.

the main issues have been october 2019

There are a bunch of us here who were overbooked into SSR / OKW this autumn and many (not all) got a nice upgrade.
Having seen the Virgin issues this year it's sway me to booking direct (flights separately!) In future.
