We're looking at a VW and it's coming up with a discount of £3k via carwow.
I have. Someone above posted about that and I have had a few offered this morning. Looks pretty good!

Many people think "discount for cash" but a very good friend of mine has a used car dealership and he says he's more likely to offer a discount if the car is on finance as he gets commission from the finance company plus extra kickbacks if he sells over a certain amount of finance in a quarter. Absolutely don't be afraid to haggle, they will respect you for it, honestly!

What we usually go on is the overall cost to us... Whether they give us more for our car, free services etc.

On occasions however I have seen MY px car on the forecourt with a £2k mark up... with the dealer having sworn blind there wasn't another penny in mine (usually less than 3 years old and under 20k on the clock 🤢🤢&#129314
A £2k mark up on a £500 car would be a bit much but for an £8-10k one probably fair. The dealer has to put right any faults, scratches, dings etc. maybe replace a tyre or 2, valet the car, provide a warranty, then possibly have some haggle room as well as cover his wages and the running costs of the site etc.

You could possibly have sold your car privately but that can be hassle, and most people prefer the security of some sort of back up should things go wrong.

Hi

Yeah I know but it's just a bit gutting when they insist there's not another penny in the deal 😏😏.

We always buy from a main dealer for the security etc and obviously expect to pay more for the privilege and no hassles of private selling... Does anyone ever manage to sell car privately these days?

Of course they have to make a living but my cars were all under 3 years old and in immaculate condition so little extra to cost them money.

When u have to even squeeze a tank of fuel out of them it's just a little annoying 🙄🙄

And DH is in sales so he's not easy to please... Unlike me who just wants the fastest car on the forecourt 🤣🤣🤣
