Adventures in Public Transport:The Return - Day Eleven - Disneyland Park
We woke early this morning excited for our first Disney morning. We got are ears at the ready and left the hotel at 7.58am. As the hotel has its own security area we were through quickly, walked through DTD and entered the park by 8.18am (Park opening was 8am so we weren’t to far behind). We passed under the bridge and walked down main street saying a hello to Walts light as we passed.
We had a rough plan for the first part of the day so we headed to our first ride Alice. We followed this we the Matterhorn before heading to grab a quick breakfast at Tomorrowland Terrace where we each got a kids bacon and egg bun that comes with fruit and a small drink for $6.99 each. While DH waited for our order I went to grab three FP’s for Star Tours. It was 9.04am at this point at the fast pass was for 9.35-10.35am. After eating breakfast we rode Buzz before using our Star Tours FP. We then headed to Adventure land to get some FP’s for Indie. We grabbed these at 10.24am for a 11.30-12.30am return. The Eclipse was happening today and it was casting a lovely light all across the park. Lots of people had special glasses but sadly we didn’t but a cast member at the Jungle Cruise, our next ride, had a pin hole one that she was letting everyone use. After a cruise down the amazon and a good giggle at the cheesy puns we rode Pirates which still only had a 10 minute wait at this point. We were going to ride Thunder Mountain next but the queue was 30 minutes so decided to leave that till later as we knew the wait time would drop later in the day. Instead we headed to New Orleans Station to board the Railroad. This had recently re-opened after an 18 month closure to make way for Star Wars: Galaxys Edge so we were looking forward to seeing the new route. (Such a mouthful. Why can’t it just be called Star Wars Land?) We rode the whole loop around which made a nice relaxing way to rest your legs. We got back off and headed to Indie as our fastness slot was open. From here we took a wander up through the castle and up though Fantasyland to the Red Rose Tavern to get some lunch. This place still seems to be popular so there was a bit of a wait to order. We used the DL app to look at the menu while we waited. DS went to grab us a table as we got close to the front of line. DH and I shared the Beef Poutine and DS had the kids carved turkey sandwich. The Poutine was very good. Of Course we had to try the Grey Stuff. Totally different to WDW version but still…you know… Delicious! We also tried the Gaston Brew which was nice but fairly sweet. By now it was coming up 2 o’clock so we decided to head back for a swim and get out of the heat. We headed to Tomorrowland and caught the monorail back to the hotel. We relaxed by the pool for a couple of hours before getting changed and heading back to the park around 5 o’clock, again making use of the monorail that dropped us back in the middle of tomorrow. We checked the app for wait times and with everything still moderately busy we hopped in the queue for Autopia (25 mins). I really like how long and varied the Disneyland version is. (DS Got the DLP car) From here we headed to Thunder Mountain but it was down so we grabbed a fast pass in case it reopened later. We decided to grab a quick snack so headed to Bengal Barbecue and shared a few of the skewers between us. After a bit of a wander through a couple of shops we headed back to Thunder Mountain which was back up and running and used our fast past to ride this. From here we headed back to Fantasy Land where we rode Mr Toad, Storybook Canals and Its a small world. By now it was 8.20pm and I wanted to get a spot for the fireworks. On are way to Main Street we stumbled upon the lovely little fountain with dancing musical lights near Pixie Hollow. Just a small thing but I love these disney touches. Whilst the area in front of the castle was already filling up, main street still had a good amount of space so we when and grabbed ourselves a couple of starbucks before finding a spot to sit and wait. The fireworks started just after 9.30pm. It’s the old 50th Anniversary show with lots of ride references. The show was great but not quiet as good as the 60th Fireworks the year before. After the fireworks were contemplated riding a few more things but in the end we decided to head back as we wanted to get an early start tomorrow and at Disneyland it is definitely far quieter in the morning than evenings. So we hopped back on the monorail and headed back to the hotel for bed. Edited at 05:05 PM. |
