First Time in DLP - Advice on Disney's Davy Crockett Ranch without car please!
Hi,
We're planning a 3-day weekend to DLP for October half term. We've been to WDW Florida twice but never to DLP and I'm anxious to get things right! There will be 6 of us, 4 adults and two children aged 6 years. I was having a look at Disney's Davy Crockett Ranch and it's so much cheaper than getting two rooms at the hotels onsite and the pool looks really nice for the age of the children. There is a problem though: none of us will be driving. I read you need a car for DDCR but I was wondering if we could get away with using taxis to and fro the park if we were to book a premium cabin i.e. one near the hotel reception (I guess taxis wouldn't be allowed inside the hotel premises). The cost of the taxis is not a huge worry as we're planning to go to the park only two days so we would only need 2 round trips. However, I've read somewhere that DDCR is not designed for walking so my question is, would be able to walk safely from a premium cabin to reception? Or is this not ok at all? Thanks so much for any advice

You will struggle to get a taxi to/from DCR. It is strictly a self drive resort only so you need to be driving. It may still work out cheaper to hire a car and drive than booking two rooms. Worth looking into.

There is a security barrier at the entrance to DCR, I'm not sure that they'd let a taxi past that point, it's still quite a long way from there to the cabins.

That's really helpful to know. We may need to rethink our plans!

I think Santa Fe has family rooms. I'm not sure of the sleeping arrangement, or how many the rooms accommodate, but it might be worth giving them a call and asking. xx

You will need a car. They were building a bus stop at the old entrance but now that they have moved the entrance. As others have said its still a bit of a walk to the security barriers. We are a family of 5 so we have stayed there a lot and we did ask about family rooms at the santa fe but they are almost the same price as the family rooms at newport bay club.

Unfortunately Disney's Davy Crockett Ranch ideally requires your own transport.
Have you given any thought about hiring a van (large 7 seater) which may help getting to and from the port or airport and may save you some euros to spend in the parks? Also have a look at some of the other accommodation websites (bookings / hotels / trivago) etc as you sometimes see some great deals on these sites, if you choose not to stay at DDCR. Hope this helps a little. |
