Why is Alamo expensive when booking so far in advance?
Hi
If I wanted to book for May 2019 (which I do) it will cost be £570 with Alamo brits, but if I go in 8/10 weeks time its only £267, why is this? When I was doing a dummy one for May 2018 about 10 weeks before it was also coming out as a reasonable price of £250ish. Also have been in May 2015 and 2017 and only paid £230, so I know £267ish is about what I should expect to pay. Sorry for the rambling, but its really annoying cos I want to book now lol, I know I could book with DFCH too but they are coming out as £350 too which I don't want to pay |

Try booking through Virgin Holidays. They use Alamo and were the cheapest I could find.

You are treating car hire as a one off task. I usually book with Alamo Brits because I can cancel or amend without charge. I usually book about 10 months in advance and then check every day and change the booking when the price changes. The standard SUV I have got booked for next month started at about 850 or something and it is now down to £702. When you saw the dummy the price of the dummy boking you should have committed.

Hi SeasSailor
I didn't commit wen I did the dummy booking as I didn't go in 2018, im going in 2019, I was just seeing IF I was going in 2018 what it would cost, so I could estimate the cost for 2019! I see where you are coming from, but I refuse to pay stupid prices for car hire (£570 for an economy), even if I can check and cancel/rebook at a cheaper price. Does anyone know if I book with DFCH at £334, and it reduces I will get the cheaper price? thanks |

I have never booked with DFCH. I understand from reading posts on here that he does do that. Contact them and get it straight from source.

There is no need to pay now.
You can leave it as late as the day you arrive - they never run out of cars although one or two options may not be available The cheapest for us was two weeks before we went - end of July |

Prices vary all.the time. But in my experience it's often better to book early with someone who does free cancellations and amendments. It would not be correct to think last minute is always cheaper.
