Part time job whilst at school
Our DD (16) is looking for part time work whilst in last year of school, she is not old enough to work for Tesco, Asda etc and I am aware the likes of McD's can be applied for online but she is also going to go around the local businesses - we live in a very small town with limited options.
Apart from going in and asking face to face if there are any vacancies we have encouraged her to take a basic CV but what sort of things should she detail on it - does she need a personal statement, key skills or references? Apart from a few hobbies she doesn't have much experience in anything yet. Thanks in advance for any advice. Tracy

I’ve been told that you have to have finished year 11 to get the majority of jobs. Even if you are 16.
My 14 year dd has a potential weekend job at our local ice rink and we have had to apply for a license for her to work but it lists she can only do 2 or 3 hours at a weekend. |

Our GS is 16 and works at a local restaurant as a kitchen help / pot washer for a few hours once or twice a week. They live on an island so he just went round the local restaurants and asked.

My daughter (15) works at the weekends at the local B&B and has done for over a year
She sometimes does the waitressing at breakfast and then cleans the rooms afterwards It’s hard graft but she likes the money She saw the job advertised on the school newsletter and sent them an email straight away saying how good she was at making beds (She had actually never made a bed at that point) and got an interview straight away It’s flexible so the month or two before her GCSEs next year she’s going to stop and then will return afterwards Might be worth seeing if there’s anything like this in your area Edie |

Our Dd has just finished year 11 and awaiting results this week
She has applied for a few jobs and only one has replied back saying unsuccessful, these are only weekend jobs she is going for, I think it's hard at this age as they have no experience to offer and just need that start. I also think they have the pick of the applicants as that many apply. She is going to look again once results day is out of the way.

My DD is lucky enough to have got a weekend job about a month ago. The stables where she has had lessons from for years advertised for stable hands on FB when we were on holiday so DD phoned and the owner said to pop in for an interview when we were back. When the owner saw it was her, she offered her a job straightway. It's only minimum wage and she works 8-10 on Saturday mornings then 8-4 with an hour for lunch Sunday. It's prefect for as she knows people round the yard and would much rather work with horses than people. She is (hopefully) starting her A levels September on the road to becoming a vet so it's all experience.

I used to employ a lot of sixth formers when I managed a bowling centre. It worked well for them as school holidays were busier as well as weekends so when they had more free time the hours or extra hours were available. Cinemas are another good one to try , possibly leisure centres or gyms too.
