Airbnb versus Homeandaway
Seen same villas in Storey Lake on both sites at different prices.
Anybody know if you get more security with Homeandaway as opposed to Airbnb. Would have preferred a Dibb villa but can’t find any in this area. I know some dibb members have stayed at Storey Lake so who did you book with? |

Both sites charge the renter a service fee it could be that, that is increasing the cost on one of the sites as the percentage charged to the renter is different on both sites.

Have only used Airbnb - in France; Spain; Portugal and UK and have never had any problems. Can't speak for Homeandaway.

I have used both. I had to cancel (with almost a year’s notice) a villa through homeaway recently and struggled to get my deposit back so would pick Airbnb now but I might just have been unlucky with the owner.

Have you tried googling the villa you like? You might find it direct for less.

Neither do any checks to see if you actually own the villa so I would be wary. You don't get anymore security with one or other. Airbnb I believe can be more favorable to guests should something go wrong, but this is not always fair.

I read an article that said that Homeaway now only pass on payment to the host after the guest has checked in. Not sure if this is correct or not but if it is hopefully would reduce risk of booking a villa and something going wrong.
Airbnb are an absolute nightmare to deal with if you have a problem. It is very difficult to speak to anyone beyond the person who answers the phone and that person is not authorised to do anything. I wasted hours of my life waiting for someone to call me back (They never did.) Based on my own experience, no I wouldn’t recommend Airbnb. We eventually booked with Homeaway and luckily had no problems but I can’t recommend them either as I don’t know what they are like to deal with if you have a problem. |

Interesting perspective from owners point of view.
Couldn’t find the villa direct so booked via HomeAway in the end and fingers crossed. Thanks for advice. |

Ive found Homeaway different this time, I haven't been for 4 years! Last time round I sent off enquiries from Homeaway website & thereafter dealt with the owner direct. Hasn't been the case this time & I don't feel like I'm getting a personal service when enquiring. Wondering if anyone else feels the same. Hope that all made sense!
