Selected for additional security checks

I have tried to log in today and couldn't, I rang VA, and was told that I had been selected for additional security checks!

What is this - anyone else had this?
Or is it just a case of I need to check in at Mcr?

my other half had an extra check at gatwick when he couldn't do online check in couple of years ago. nothing to worry about double checked passport and looked in hand luggage again just before the gate. no frisking involved!

It won’t be a problem aslong as you have nothing to hide, they may swab you iPad,mobile phone for drugs, you may get a body pat down it’s nothing to worry about thou

I have nothing to hide, a recent speeding fine and thats it. I am taking prescription medication with me but that all and thats in my hand luggage. its paracetomol and codeine.

Me and my niece have been selected, she has a different surname to me, but I have a letter from her parents to say we can take her in and out of the country.

double check of passport,hand luggage was searched and was I patted down,those selected for the extra checks were taken to a secure area blocked off from other passengers,my daughter and I were both selected we were last passengers on the plane my youngest daughter who went on the plane with her dad, was having kittens thinking we would be left behind

On my Virgin flight from MAN in June there was a girl of 15 with her Mum next to me in the boarding queue. The girl, like me, had the SSSS on her boarding pass & Mum asked me if they gave minors the treatment - I didn't know. In the end at MAN they didn't. I got to step aside for my SSSS treatment (swabbing of hands, inside of shoes, bottom of socks & jeans pockets). No frisking / other inspection of hand baggage whatsoever - as long as the explosive trace detector comes back negative you are allowed to board with minimal delay.
