For spending money we have a £2 pot and I also throw about £100 into that every month. Other than that our savings go straight into a savings account every month the day we are paid. That account is never allowed below a certain limit and everything else is for holidays or additional savings. I also ask my mum and sister for $’s for my birthday and Christmas gifts.

I like the idea of $$$ for Christmas and birthday presents.

I'm not sure how you can call it betting then say it's not gambling!

Even if it's a certain bet it's still gambling.

Because there's no risk involved!

The rules in the Netherlands mean I get paid 1/13th of my yearly salary each month and then once a year I get 2 months salary (though they sting you for tax on that month) so its an enforced holiday saving plan. I do think I should be better at saving though.

I have done this too. It isn't gambling because if you do it correctly then the amount you gain is the same, regardless of the match outcome.

We just put £100/month into an isa, and if we end up with 'extra' money that goes in too. We're not big spenders in a way, so not many saving to be made at home (unless we sell the pony!) and don't spend much on holidays compared with some of the crazy figures on here.
