Planes, Trains and Automobiles (Smoky mountains - Williamsburg - Washington DC - New York) Day 13
Day 13 - Wednesday 12th April 2017
Lovely lie in till 8am as all we needed to do was have the car in Washington DC by 5pm! Hotel breakfast of cereal and bagels and we were on out way at 9.45. We only had a short stop at a rest area for the toilet and we arrived at our hotel for 1230. The sat nav was a life saver for this journey (well ... marriage saver!) Yet again we were please to be on the right side of the road! Jack was pleased to be able to say he has travelled on route 66 I had chosen the hotel as it was 2 blocks from a Hertz rental place and a short walk down a cycle path to the metro. It cost approx. £100 a night, hotels in Washington were much more than this. Too early to check in, we dropped our cases and made a quick trip to refill the petrol tank and drop the car off. We then set out to find the metro and work out how to buy the tickets. In Washington you have a ticket each and the fares are changeable depending on distance and time of day. I think it was fairly pricy as we did a trip in and out on 2 occasions and then a trip in to the Union station and it cost approx. £50 I think on my credit card statement. We planned on having lunch as dinner before going downtown and so got off the metro at Clarendon as I had found the silver Diner which looked great! Georgia's surprise at seeing vegetables other than broccoli on her plate I had the vegan dish, it was amazing! We spent the next 3 hours sightseeing starting with the White house and its visitor centre. Then onto the National monument It was so hot that Georgia took the opportunity to put her feet in the fountain The walk back to the metro took us to the rear of the White house where I took some pretty pictures On return to the hotel we checked in and took advantage of the free Starbucks coffee machine they had in the lobby and in the room had a 'I haven't got anything proper for tea' snack of graham crackers, muffins, oranges, apples and pretzels.

Hi! I obviously wasn't looking at wheelchair access but i think you would have no problems. Just do a little research beforehand and I'm sure it will work for you.
