Extend or Not
Hi Dibbers
It's looking likely that I may be able to extend my 2 week holiday next May by 4-5 days, depending on the price of the hotel. Now I've a few things to consider, and am wondering people's thoughts on this. Travellers are myself and my son who will be 11. He's not into fast rides (hoping to change that lol), but he loves Minions, Potter and the Simpsons. That is my main consideration for incorporating Universal Studios into it. Option A. Stay at 14 days all Disney but be more extravagant. E.g. Do horse riding, expensive restaurants, dessert parties, Hoop De Whatever it's called, the amphibicars etc etc. In other words, spend a lot of cash doing the costly things there, but having an amazing time in the bubble. Option B. Extend by 4-5 days and add things in like Discovery Cove Dolphin Swim, SeaWorld, Aquatica and Universal Studios (if I can stretch to that cost) at the end of the holiday. Also, I'm thinking if I go for option B, I'll have to downgrade the accommodation for the extended days from Disney to perhaps a smallish hotel on I.D. Also spending Money would be at a minimum. We'd be on a tight budget. Would changing hotels be a hassle? Would doing all these parks be too much? I'm not sure when I'd get the chance to go back as ds will be hitting senior school in Sept '18. Thanks for any help in advance x |

I would always go for the longer stay. The first time we went as a family we were there for two weeks and crammed everything in. Kids and we loved it but it always seemed rushed. Second year we went for three weeks and it was a lot more relaxed and we could appreciate our surroundings more, rather than rushing between places.
Cabana Bay at Universal is ideal for the parks and Volcano Bay. It's always priced quite reasonably. We found the longer we were there, the less we really spent on 'extras' as we spent less time in shops and more time exploring. Have a great time whatever you decide to do. |

Thanks for the reply but it looks like my mind has been made up for me.
I got in touch with the travel agent that I booked with, asking for quotes for the extension to my holiday. My Magic Holiday replied that they've got in touch with Thomas Cook and they've said that as it is a package that has been booked, the holiday would have to be cancelled and completely rebooked. Seems silly when it'd just be one flight that'd have to be moved (which is a £50 fee and cost difference), and a few extra days at the same hotel adding on. So instead of TC getting some extra money it'll be going to Disney I guess, or staying in my purse. Thanks Thomas Cook for helping make holiday dreams come true <insert sarcasm>. |

That is a shame, they can be so unforgiving sometimes.
Back to plan A - I know you will have an amazing time. |

This is what my TA replied with when I asked them about increasing my hol 'I have checked with Thomas Cook about extending your holiday but as it is a complete package with them we are unable to add any extra nights on it would have to rebook everything which will work out quite costly for you.'.
I've just spoken to Thomas Cook about this and they've replied 'If you're looking to amend, you won't lose your deposit even if we are cancelling and rebooking. You'll need to go back to your agency and ask them to get in contact with us again, as this isn't the right information you've been given'. Not sure why My Magic Holidays are saying that it'd need to be rebooked and would work out costly for me to add on those days then. Slightly annoyed now as the free dining has ended so won't get it for the extra days. Edited at 10:50 AM. |

Perhaps you can get back to my magic holidays and speak to someone else with the information Thomas Cook have provided.
It's some time off until your holiday, have they told you how much you would loose? I wouldn't give up until I've exhausted all options. We extended our first trip from 2 weeks to 3 on our very first trip back in 2002 (with 10 months notice) I don't remember any huge costs involved. I would also agree with others extending your holiday if you can. For us it's always more than 14 nights as it's a much nicer pace and feels more like a holiday.

I'm awaiting a reply from the TA. Apparently they tried to amend it on computer using TC's portal, and it would only allow for the holiday to be cancelled so the agent is going to get back to me.
Feeling a tad stressed about it tho lol. Just want the options in front of me so I can make the decision one way or another. |
