Vero beach is very nice - there are some really nice beaches on east coast too - I would either go closer if not been before, or combine with Busch Gardens or Baseball….unless you are real beach lovers it can be a bit much - our kids only last about an hour or two - so it's a long day / lot of driving then. Clearwater does have some good boat rides and an aquarium to visit too.
We went there day after a storm, and the water was anything but clear - full of seaweed and hot like a bath - no escape from heat….and on our trip to Vero the sea was beautiful and clear and cool and refreshing….surprising for the atlantic we thought... Edited at 09:38 PM. |

St Pete Beach for us and we booked two nights in Plaza beach in August despite having a villa for the two weeks. If you go during the week there will be a handful of people on the stretch from the don cesar to two miles round. The sand is white and the water is like bath water. We had dolphins close each time. Clearwater is lovely but much busier and the water is colder

Another vote for the St Pete's Beach area (Treasure Island) - warm water, still lots to do locally and no crowds

Treasure Island is my favourite and Johns pass marina/boardwalk is nice. Unspoilt.
