Tchoup Chop!
We had a table booked at Tchoup Chop for 8pm, so after getting ready we headed down to Jake's for a drink and to say our farewells - the bar staff here had all been great and even bought us a drink to say thanks for the custom lol. I stuck to mineral water so I did not lose my appetite!
Around 7.45 we set off the short walk around the corner to our destination: Well what can I say about this place! What a lovely atmosphere, superb attentive (but not over the top) service. There are three servers per table and you can barely take a sip of wine or water before they come over and top it up! Having said that, there were plenty of families in there and they did do a childrens menu, which seemed very good. I'm getting ahead of myself - first we were offered three types of water - Fiji, sparkling or tap water. Then we were brought some lovely prawn crackers and a spicy peanut dip, really lovely. We both ordered the same: Appetiser: Seared Sea Scallops with garlic and lime butter on twice-fried plantains with salad: This was very nice, slight complaint (and I'm no expert) the sauce was a little TOO buttery for my taste and one of Tins' scallops was very salty - but that can happen I suppose? We then chose the Hawaiian Dinner Platter: This comprised Kiowa smoked ribs, Teriyaki chicken, Kahlua pork sautéd noodles, chorizo potato hash and steamed chinese broccoli. Some of the flavours in this were spectacular- the Teriyaki chicken was the best I've ever tasted and the pork very tender and tasty. But we both felt that there were a lot of strong tastes, that all together were a bit too much - maybe just a bad choice?. We declined desserts being full and washed the food down with a bottle of Californian Semillon Chardonnay at $32 a bottle. The total for the meal including wine, excluding tip (we left $20) was $125. We both felt that, despite some of our criticisms, this was a superb price for a great restaurant and a lovely evening - in fact when we were to start looking at some of the bills we later got (at even x 1 TS meals on the DDP), this meal was an absolute bargain. We would definitely eat there again and just be more cautious with our choices. Tired and with full bellies, we were back in our room and asleep for 10.30!
