The world has gone mad
I am all for equality in every form but Dr who is a man plain and simple. Ridiculous to cast a women.,

Isn't Dr who an alien species of no definite gender that just regenerates in human form ? .
Yes a female bond would be odd , or a Mr Marple , but surely this is just giving the story a refreshing twist that might actually breathe some much needed life back into the show ?

Dr who is not real.
For centuries actors have played parts crossing over the roles between sexes. |

A female Bond would be strange on account of James being a man's name.
Likewise a Mr Marple would be strange on account of it being a female character. Isn't the whole point of Doctor Who that a doctor is gender neutral? Particularly an alien Doctor who has two hearts and regenerates every so often? |

Incidentally nobody cares that Mrs Turnblad is played by a man in Hairspray ...

I'm looking forward to the regeneration - something different to reinvigorate the series. I think it worked well when the Master regenerated into Missy. A lot depends on the quality of the writing. The last series started really well, but lost it's way a bit in the middle, imho. Every time the Dr regenerates everyone has something negative to say - from Christopher Ecclestone through to Peter Capaldi. Each actor brings a unique twist to the character, which is the great thing about Dr Who - it's not set in stone. Roll on the Christmas special.

that was always what I understood Dr Who to be too - wiki has this -
"The concept is that this is a Time Lord trait through which the character of the Doctor takes on a new body and personality to recover from a severe injury or anything that would otherwise kill a normal person. Each actor's portrayal differs, but all represent stages in the life of the same character and form a single narrative. " So following that premise, Dr Who could be any form really, any gender, any age etc. On the other hand, I'm not a fan so my opinion is only based on what I understand Dr Who to be, I'm not fussed one way or the other who plays the Doctor. |
