There goes the end of Summer!
We buy a fan it goes cold. We buy snow chains after 2009 never needed them.
If we followed MH advice and spent a fortune on AC then that'd be the end of hot summers!

I mean, I know it's hot today but the temperature isn't close to the hottest it's ever been.

Also, an "amber extreme heat warning" sounds weird.
Hyperthermia is more dangerous than hypothermia especially in older and vunerable people. Which is why people were asked to check on elderly friends and neighbours. A&E staff will bear witness to the increase in patients during a heatwave.

They bought in a portable aircon unit into one of the rooms at my place of work once (not recently). They just had in in the middle of the room. So it was blowing out cool air at the front of the unit but warmer airat the back. Absolutely pointless - the temperature of the room would've stayed the same (maybe increased a little because the motor to drive the fan would've been generating heat).

Yes, but I think we're all aware that it's hot without being told. And if a prior warning is required then I think showing people the expected temperatures and saying "it's going to be hot" would be sufficient.

Haha I said exactly this when OH told me the price of getting a unit fitted... not sure it's worth the investment for the one week of summer we have a year! :P

I often hear people say it’s only a few days or a week every year, but I can assure you mine is on for many weeks a year because my loft conversion gets the sun all day and due to the amount of insulation it’s really warm.

It is also great to have all the windows closed when people are in their gardens in the hot evenings having fun (and making noise).

My mancave/summerhouse air con unit is used lots in the summer and more in the winter when it doubles up as a heater.

So stop moaning and buy a proper air con unit
