Genuine question, what happens if you have no way of paying for the quarantine and insurance doesn't cover it? It's not as though it's optional for people.

Sorry this has happened for you OP. We've been waiting for quite a long time now to book a trip to SA.

You can apply for. Hardship arrangement and pay in instalments. But it looks like you are expected to apply for a loan or credit card if at all possible.

IS this a possibility OP?

Many have travelled to other places to get to the US so it's the same thing. You just need a flight somewhere that will accept you.

Hope you get home safely and soon.

Have considered this. Virgin have given us a flight to LHR Wednesday morning. According to the govt site you can travel from a red list country and transit onto another destination ( where's the sense in that ? Seems you can even travel to another airport or port for your ongoing journey ) but I'm worried that somehow Mexico would end up on the red list, or we wouldn't fulfil some requirement of onward travel through whichever country we are connecting in.

Can you fly direct from SA to Mexico/anywhere?

Would take some researching in their entry requirements. Good luck x

I did look a couple of days ago, took 38 hours and 3 changes. And of course you have to take entry requirements for connecting countries into account
