I still think prices should be lower. We have had lower fuel prices for over a year now yet that fuel surcharge whice is now a carrier surcharge has not moved at all.
I am hoping prices fall further £500 flights in Aug is a start but my hope is the airlines wriggle a bit more!

Lower fuel.prices doesn't automatically mean lower flights. It does depend if the airline did some fuel.hedging and could be still paying high prices for fuel. Also the airlines will be maximising profits by keeping the prices as high as possible before or having to reduce the price which they might not have to even do. Most airlines are a for profit organisation and the one goal to to make money for its shareholders not to give cheap travel to the public.

True... they owe me nout...but when they introduce a fuel surcharge when prices rise... then re name it a carrier imposed surcharge and fail to reduce it when prices fail...and no airline hedges all of thrir fuel and not for as long as year... I start to feel annoyed!

Just booked BA flights and I'm delighted with the price. It makes your eyes water though when you see the price breakdown, the flight itself accounts for less than half of the total; taxes and charges make up the rest

You can always use another airline if you are not happy with the way BA does business. No one is forcing you to use BA.

Actually I'm.moaning at BA and virgin. I won't fly BA in economy as I don't like their billing rules on exit row seats so I only have a choice of virgin direct from.lgw to mco.
They are basically running a cartel. Have done for years.

Too simplified a view... Sure, reduced oil price might mean an overall 10-15% reduction (taking hedging into account) on costs, but many airlines have bought planes exactly because oil was $100/barrel. Now these fuel-efficient planes don't offer so much benefit yet will still be delivered... And there's risk that they will hedge less so when oil does go back up the fuel surcharges might increase!

Fuel surcharges are usually not now done for "fuel price change" reasons but as part of the overall ticket price. And the overall ticket price won't be coming down much anytime soon - if they abolished fuel surcharges the base ticket would go up the same and then some (especially for charter airlines).

As for not liking BA/VA's exit row charging policy, no-one at BA/VA is worrying about that. They're always full with paying people. Everyone complains about some airline or other. IMHO the only people who "stick to their guns" are those that never looked at the price in the first place. I've yet to meet anyone that will pay £800 for a VA flight when the same BA one is £500...

well by feb next year VS will have no 747s based at heathrow, all replaced by more fuel efficent Airbus and 787s, also the gatwick 747s have a life of around 5 years before they will be gone too, BA have also cut down 747s

If the surcharge is "part of the ticket" make it part of the ticket, dont make up a fake carrier imposed surcharge then! the LCCs manage it as do all other non uk airlines.

TBH I dunno why i'm having a vent, at the end of the day they charge what they think the market will bear. Normally I would say there is no way on earth I would pay £700 for a economy flight in October, however next year I have to go- no option and my dates are fixed by my situation.

It may be a case I have to swallow hard and pay it... but I wont like the fact that the normally "expensive" August is almost £200 cheaper than my "off peak" october flights lol.

I wish there was a competitor like the old TCD again, they may have been rough around the edges but since they went bust there has been a massive reduction in competition from Gatwick, and prices have been pushed up!

I got a good price from BA from Glasgow , around £400, but decided to go direct with Virgin for £484 which I'm delighted with. Let the planning commence

Then again LLC airlines charge extra for everything else they can from food on board to baggage in the hold down to checking at the airport.
