Also he would appear to be declaring it anyway to get the £10 tip matching from Uber

I said you don’t need to give ANY tip so he said I give you ten pounds which without the explanation seemed really odd! So I just said no we tipped via the app. We go inside and my daughter who is doing accounting says “classic money laundering” 😂, I think is he trying to get rid of fake notes?
With the explanation of the matching obviously now it makes sense but at the time was odd.
We have never had them ask for a tip usually to rate them.
That is not "classic money laundering"! The source would be a lot better hidden and it isn't done £10 at a time.

It is a shame that he did not explain the scheme a bit better, Uber drivers earn peanuts whilst Uber itself avoids costs of employment, would have been nice for the driver to have had a little bonus.

So he gives you a tenner and then you have to go online at the doorstep to pay a tenner tip ? Without going in to the rights and wrongs of Uber the taxi driver is still conning Uber out of £10 for each customer. I can see OP’s daughters reasoning of the Uber driver passing through dirty money. Whatever he is doing it is naughty. I am sure the OP lives in the same town as me and nothing would surprise me round here.

I'll take a guess Uber are aware how drivers are achieving 'tip match'.

If anyone told me I had to tip them, I wouldn’t tip them. Also wouldn’t be told how much to tip! That’s not how it works here. I don’t use Uber anyway as I don’t trust them, and I can only get them one way because of where I live.
