Manchester currently has a free drop off point at each terminal, yes. They are separate from the short-stay and long-stay multi-story car parks.

But from June they'll start charging to drop off at these. Hence this thread.

After June, there will be a free drop off point some distance away from the airport where you can get a shuttle bus to the terminals.

There's a comment in the link in the first post that raises a good point. To quote that comment: "At Terminal 1, the drop off area used to be two very wide lanes with drop offs allowed for the full length of the building and on both the nearside and offside of each wide lane. There was probably room for 100+ cars to drop off all at the same time. Since the ‘improvements’ there are now around 14 marked bays, with queues almost back to the motorway."

Manchester airport has changed the drop off areas at the terminals over the years to make it less convenient to drop off and pick up. One can't help but think that they may have engineered the traffic problems themselves.

That's what I meant! Sorry I worded it wrong.

For Manchester airport we tend to book a hotel overnight with parking included. This normally comes with a free taxi ride to the terminal but I wonder if you'll have to start paying to be dropped off right outside when this comes into force.
