Had a fantastic curry delivery last night
Our first takeout/delivery since 21st March (before lockdown) A local catering company that do an Indian dish each Friday and deliver. Orders are taken by Wednesday for the dish of the week, then prepared and delivered Friday. It was chicken or veggie vindaloo this week, not as hot and spicy as it sounds. It was provably the best curry I've ever had, authentic flavours, really delicious. Great value at £6 for veggie dish, £6.50 for meat.

Our favourite Indian restaurant has reopened for delivery, £12 for a starter, main, rice and naan, also throw in a couple of free popadoms & pickles.
Have to order early in the day as they are getting very busy, had one last week for my birthday and it was excellent.

The pub in our village started doing takeaways within days of the lockdown being announced and they’ve been very busy.
Our son ordered a 3 meat roast dinner with a lemon tart dessert for us on Sunday as a gift for DH birthday which was yesterday. It was delicious so DH decided we would order something last night beer battered fish chips and mushy peas. Once again delicious and I think it might become a regular weekend treat for us while the lockdown continues.

Our local Ghurka restaurant (they are ex Army from the local barracks) has opened up for takeout. Lovely people, fantastic food.
Was a real treat last night. Even broke my dry period for a well deserved beer with it. Can't wait to go for a full meal there again. |

havent had a takeaway since the pizza joint in town closed for the lockdown and we helped clear them out of their fresh stock
i don't usually do curry from a jar, but yeo's rendang paste is something i now use regularly. it's by far the best jar paste i've come across! amazon/Yeos-Rendan...nguag e=en_GB (its usually around £1.50 a jar from your local asian supermarket, although i believe morrisons and some others stock it too) just chuck your meat in a pan with some finely diced onion, let it brown, and then chuck the paste in. if its something that needs a couple of hours to cook (eg beef/mutton) then add a little coconut milk (or water) to the paste to thin it down enough to cook the meat in. over the course of the cook, it will turn back into a "dry" coating on the meat. if it's chicken, pork or something that cooks quickly, don't add the extra milk and just heat it long enough to cook the meat through. i use a third of a tin of coconut milk in the paste, and then use the rest of it to make coconut rice to go with it. server with some green beans sauteed in a little garlic and chilli. better than pretty much any takeaway curry you'll find, and very little effort to make for the rice for 2 people, i use 2/3rd of a cup of basmati, 1 cup coconut milk, and some salt, and bung it in the rice cooker (or simmer in a pan until all the liquid is absorbed) |

During the Gulf war we worked with half a dozen Ghurkas who one night gave the cooks the night off and they cooked us some traditional food, it was the best curry I've ever had in my life, nothing has ever come close to what they knocked together with limited recourses.
