UK Parks - New for 2021 rides - round up
As we might all be spending another year holidaying closer to home in 2021 I thought it might be useful/interesting to round up some of the planned new rides/attractions at UK theme parks this year to help with trip planning.
It is shaping up to be a pretty good year for new attractions with most of the 'big parks' having something new. Some of these were actually originally planned to open in 2020 and were pushed back, others were always meant to open this year. So lets take a look... Alton Towers At Alton Towers in 2021 they will be opening the new 'World of David Walliams' which is located where the previous 'Cloud Cuckoo Land' lived. The headline attraction is the new indoor dark ride "Gangsta Granny: The Ride" based on the popular children's book. There will also be a new shop and a couple of smaller existing rides that have been rethemed. Here is a behind the scenes look that was originally on local ITV news just before they had to cancel the opening last March Confirmed to be opening: 17th May Update. As well as the new ride Alton Towers have now released details of their events for 2021. Including Scarefest, Fireworks, Oktoberfest and new for this year Mardi Gras. Chessington Chessington have a couple of new rides this year. The first is a direct replacement of the Pirate Ship, which was removed at the end of 2019, the replacement which was delayed from last year should be opening in 2021. Along side this there is a brand new ride "Croc Drop" which is a drop tower type ride that plunges riders into the mouth of a giant crocodile (as you do!). Not much in the way of concept art or photos on this one. But here is a construction photo from a month or so ago showing the theming which the drop tower will rise from. Confirmed to be opening: 12th April Drayton Manor Drayton Manor had a change of ownership last year and it seems the new owners are tidying up the park and adding new rides for 2021. There is a new 4D show in the cinema and a new re-themed area called ‘Adventure Cove’ with the return of the Rapids with new boats and more apparently to be announced soon! Flamingo Land Another delayed 2020 ride here, but a pretty large scale one for Flamingo Land and I think their biggest investment for quite some time. This 10 looping rollercoaster is actually almost a direct clone of Colossus at Thorpe Park, but with slightly different trains and newer track it should make for a smoother ride. The ride was originally planned to go to a different theme park (somewhere in Brazil I think), but after they changed their mind Flamingo Land purchased it. I believe the name is planned to be "Inversion" - bit basic but gets the point across I guess. Legoland Windsor Pretty big investment into Legoland this year, they are opening an entire new area called "Mythica" which is being billed as "a parallel universe where mythical creatures come to life before your eyes." It will be situated at the back of the park near the hotels and includes the rethemed "SQUID Surfer" ride along with a small new drop tower and the main attraction is a brand new flying theatre, essentially it will be an indoor Soarin' style ride with a Lego theme. Confirmed to be opening: 29th May Paultons Park Another brand new area at Paultons Park - Tornado Springs is themed to 1950's America and includes a new spinning family rollercoaster called "Storm Chaser" along with a few other new rides, shops and food outlets. From the construction photos this looks to be a very well themed and detailed area and with Paultons being family owned as opposed to part of a big group this makes it all the more of an impressive effort. Confirmed to be opening: 12th April Thorpe Park The new attraction for 2021 at Thorpe Park is a little more low key than some of the other parks, this is based on the show Black Mirror which I believe is a Netflix show but not one I am aware of personally. This will be a walk through attraction located where one of their Halloween mazes previously lived and is delayed from 2020. The marketing blurb says: "Get lost as you enter a hypnotic maze using cutting-edge visual technology and sensory-defying environments. Will you keep your grip on reality or will you lose yourself in the mainframe as this unpredictable digitised dimension reveals an uneasy truth that manipulates and displaces your very existence." Confirmed to be opening: 21st May Is anyone excited about getting to experience any of these new rides/attractions? Any UK trips planned? Edited at 12:17 PM. |

We have merlin passes but this will be our last year .
Luckily the months they added on means we get pretty much a whole season as they now expire end of September . We have our annual birthday trip for our dd to Alton towers but expect that to be cancelled as it’s in April . Will definitely visit the parks once they open though. |

Interested with these. Going to Legoland in July for 1 day and then staying at the Chessington hotel and having a day in Chessington with our 2 year old. Annoyingly have to pay for him at Legoland as hes over 90cm but free at Chessington as its based on age!
