UK - Hong Kong - Tokyo
OK, so have been direct to Japan but would like to have stop over in Hong Kong next time.
When I investigated the flight (BA) to HK was as expensive as flying direct to Tokyo. So, has anybody gone the HK route and then on to Tokyo and how did you keep it all in budget? |

When I did this in 2005 (yes I know 12 years ago ) my cheapest option was to book BA LHR-HKG and NRT-LHR return. I then got a reasonably priced Cathay flight between HKG and HND.

Cheers Cabbie. I was a bit thrown with companies like Panda Airways, Dragon Air etc.

Have a look at Emirates (it will mean an additional stop in Dubai). I was playing with some figures last month trying to do Singapore and Shanghai (business class) and an indirect flight was nearly £1K cheaper than a combination of BA, VS and SQ.

The smaller airlines quote a seat only price but then don't tell you how much the kg package is for luggage.

Maybe look at Cathay Pacific flying London-HK-Tokyo-HK-London. Or maybe one of the Japanese airlines e.g. ANA/JAL flying London-Tokyo-HK-Tokyo-London? As most airlines usually allow stopovers in their "home" airports with prices not being that much higher than without a stopover...

We are flying to HK later this year via Singapore
This was significantly cheaper than direct to HK from London may be worth having a look London - Singapore - Japan |

We are doing this route in August. We fly from Manchester to Tokyo via Hong Kong, then Osaka to Hong Kong, stay in HK for a few nights then Hong Kong direct to Manchester. We did it as a multi-city flight with Cathay Pacific.
We will be taking the bullet train from Tokyo to Hiroshima, for a couple of days, then another bullet train from Hiroshima to Osaka, stay there a few days to visit Kyoto, Osaka and Universal Studios Japan. We were going to do Hong Kong on the way out but thought it better to get the longer flight out of the way there and work our way back. Suzy
