Which Hotel question? (again!)
Hi
Just trying to finalise where to stay in Tokyo for our upcoming trip. It will be me and my ds (17). Staying in Tokyo for 11nights but looking to visit surrounding areas - Mt.Takaosan, Kamakura and Enoshima. Will be going to Akihabara, Ikebukuro, Nakano Broadway (anime geeks the pair of us! ) as well as Sensoji Temple and Meiji Shrine, Imperial Palace, Tokyo Tower and Disneysea and Disneyland. While we’re there the Sumidagawa Fireworks are on as well as Shinjuku Eisa Festival. So I’ve narrowed my choices down to Sunshine City Prince Hotel (Ikebukuro) or the Ibis Tokyo Shinjuku. So any recommendations would be appreciated (darling ds just says “whatever you think is best, I don’t mind! ”) which is really helpful. Thanks in advance to any and all comments |

OMG Rae, I had to laugh reading this as I'm having the same dilemma with Tokyo hotels lol. And it's out of the same ones and DS says the same thing! The thing is, with Sunshine prince I keep thinking we won't be bored or hungry and will always have a place we can go on rainy or lazy days. But, Shinjuku seems to sum up all the excitement Tokyo is to me. I don't which to choose lol. We are staying two nights at Hlton Tokyo Bay and 3 nights in Osaka.

Well after extensive youtube research I think I'm going to stay put in Sunshine City. I think for my purposes, with 10 year old DS there will always be something he wants to do there even though Shinjuku looks prettier and has better transport options. But since it is on the loop that is the main line, it shouldn't be too much of a hardship hopefully.

Yeah I’m gonna go with Sunshine City Prince Hotel as well!
Similar reasons to you, plus my ds hates shopping so I can leave him in the hotel room or in one of the gaming/themed areas while I shop in peace! Also limousine bus stops there if I wimp out with the train when arriving, or have too much luggage on way home (probably! ) I’ve done dummy trips to various places ie imperial palace, temples and shrines I want to visit and on most journeys it’s only 10mins more travel time and price is practically the same. |

Totally agree. Also have you seen the Kitkat chocolatory in there too That Seibu department has lots of lovely food in the basement and the hotel does actually look like a good one for the money! I read it's seen as an up and coming area and the Mall just looks perfect with kids heavily into gaming! DS was blown away by the Apple store in Florida Mall, so with Namja town, J World and the Pokemon Centre all downstairs before we even start on all the gaming stuff, I personally think we can't go wrong
I think for me, I was dead set on Shinjuku since I booked, but the Sunshine has all the right ingredients And yes, I will be jumping on the limobus lol! I struggle with jetlag really badly, so at least we can still have something to do late at night on the door step when I come to,lol! |

With the J-World and Namjatown if you enter between 17:00 and 22:00 it’s cheaper and quieter which is always a bonus.
There’s also a Daiso (¥100) store on the ground floor and a FamilyMart as well. I’ve read reviews that say it’s too far from the station but at 10 to 15mins walk I don’t think it’s that bad. One important criteria for ds is that there’s a mcds just outside the station (he’s not that adventurous with food, he doesn’t like his food touching other things - but he does like rice so I’ll be trying him on the onigiri from the conbinis). |

we have gone a bit boring and done Hilton Tokyo bay for 4 nights, then Hilton Shinjuku for the next 3 nights, and an airport hotel for last one. May as well be in the cheapest one for the jetlagged first few days (inc travel days when arrive later). Got them during the Jan hilton sale for around £120per night for Tokyo bay (inc breakfast) and £220 or so for Shinjuku.
Can't wait! |
