Can I just say as the thread starter that I'd be delighted if people stand outside and applaud, sit in their lounges and applaud or do neither if they choose.

But it seems that despite my earlier polite entreaty I'm wasting my time.

Mods - will you close it please

We’re out 8pm on the dot. All my neighbours and their dogs and the lady round the corner with her saucepan and wooden spoon! Cars hooting and fireworks (which I don’t agree with personally) every week. If there’s a train in the station down the road it sounds it’s horn too. My neighbours either side both work for our NHS and they are both out too if not working.

I’d happily say thank you to someone in person and I’ll continue supporting, donating etc, but clapping just isn’t for me.
My daughter is a Med student and one of her friends who has recently qualified said they were treating someone last week. Well, as soon as 8pm came they asked if they could go outside of the hospital to clap It was totally lost on them that they were actually in the very best and effective place to do it, rather than on the doorstep with their neighbours, that one time lol

I don’t think it’s an issue having a thread discussing the clapping, the only thing I thought was unfair was the idea that people would only be grateful if their family needed help from the NHS.

All out here again including us. Last seen DD and DS at end of March.

One side our neighbour who's children visit 2/3 times a week and have their grandson to sleep over for 3 nights a week since lockdown and the other side who's mum and dad have just left and school friends and parents have been in the garden all day.

Oh yes.., love their rainbows in their windows too.

Ooh - we could try that from her room but it’s not very dark round here - good idea though! My daughter bangs hard on the glass and we hold our hands up but I know the folk to the left can’t see us due to the angle of the house. We are there though every week! 😊

I really dislike all the judgemental comments that have appeared since this virus appeared.

MH - I enjoy your posts mainly, but sorry, I find your comments on this thread really off.
Because someone decided to dedicate clapping on your doorstep every week at a set time, everyone must do it? Really?
There are lots of ways to show appreciation for others, and if people want to clap on their doorstep, good for them. But don’t try to make others feel bad if it’s not the way they want to do things.

OP - just to clarify, I think your daughter and all other key workers (my parents included) are doing a great job and I’m very grateful to them all 😊
