Two houses on our street have put them up this weekend. I understand one of them has a son coming over from the army, so they are doing christmas early. I'm sure lots of families will do this. However, for me it's too soon. I love my decorations, but I normally wait until about 10th December to put them up. I might do it a bit earlier this year due to holding a Christmas mulled wine and mince pie night for the girls. But I do get sick of them once Christmas is over and normally take them down on 1st or 2nd of Jan.

1st december for me, but I do take mine down around 27th 28th - I start removing a few at a time and not all at once - reason being with 4 kids and all the stuff they get I just can't get the living room looking tidy again until the decorations are down and all their pressies are in their own rooms. I also hate seeing the tree with no presents under it , looks bare. :-)

I hear what you are saying Heather but we (my partner & I) actually do celebrate Thanksgiving every year. It's a nice way for us to have a meal at home with friends as opposed to family ! (I mean that in a nice way.) Also I love pumpkin pie. We adopted the "holiday" back in the mid 90s.
As to Christmas decorations - I made a start yesterday when all the crates came down from the loft. First tree is up but not decorated and second will follow tomorrow. We have one very busy month ahead of us in December (to do with my partner's business) so if I don't get the stuff up now it won't go up at all. We won't be switching anything on though until first week in December. Couple of houses around here already glowing at night.

ours will go up on the 1st of December this year as that falls on the weekend, We normally put it up the 1st weekend in December and put it down again on before the kids go back to school in Jan.

Having been at the villa many times in November through to December we tend to notice that the majority of people put their outside decorations up just after Thanksgiving. When we arrived last Monday there is one house on the road to Silver Creek that is fully decorated and it is rather nice to see this when driving back to the villa in the dark. So if you are intending to put up outside decorations you will need to do it before 17th December otherwise you will be the odd one out. We have also noticed that they come down straight after Christmas and they don't wait for Twelveth Night, ie 6th January.

To those of you who know Silver Creek it is the house with the screened garage where the people who own it spend most of their time. You see them watching TV etc when driving home.

my decorations always go up around the 1st week in November and usually come down on boxing day. for me personally it's the build up to Christmas that I love, and once it gets to Christmas day, I feel it's all over - I think it's up to the individual how they celebrate, this is my personal preference :-)

I was with a friend today pricing up his decorations etc. It seems he will be sorting out his inside bit by bit soon then outside lights will go up after thanksgiving. He will need over 200ft of Garland and Ribbon lol. Another friend had his Xmas tree up last night.

I might start gathering my bits and tree and put them all up earlier than usual but not by much. Maybe the 1st Dec instead of the normal 1 week before
